About Clever Endeavor

A Duke and UNC-affiliated youth mentorship program

Clever Endeavor is a Seven-Saturday mentorship program for 4th and 5th grade
students in the Durham and Chapel Hill area. Our mentorship program is modeled after
the 5 C’s of the Positive Youth Development Model: Caring, Competence, Character,
Connection and Confidence. Competence is further broken down into two Saturdays that
addresses Academic Competence, and second Saturday that addresses Social and
Cognitive Competence. A typical Saturday begins with journal writing in which our
mentees will receive a short and child-friendly prompt that they will write about to
stimulate their thoughts on the chosen Saturday’s C. Then, there will be a logic game
activity to promote team building among our mentees. Our mentors will then complete
breakout sessions with their assigned mentees, in which they will engage in active and
thought-provoking conversations about the Saturday’s C by addressing real-world
scenarios. Breakout sessions will conclude with a game or activity that encompasses the
concepts related to the C. After lunch, the students will come together again for a recap
session with all the mentors. Finally, the students will have an allotted time to work on
their end-of-program project that they will present to their parents during the last week of
the program, their graduation. DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, OUR PROGRAM WILL BE DELIVERED VIRTUALLY THROUGH ZOOM!

What makes our group unique?

Empowering Youth

One of our aims as a mentorship organization is to provide our mentees with an early exposure to college campuses. Our uniqueness of our program stems from holding mentorship for students at Duke and UNC, as well as providing students with the opportunity to see other college campuses and receive mentorship there.
